As of November 16, 2020, the Economic Development Board of Mauritius has introduced an administrative change for non-residents who wish to visit Mauritius to explore and prepare for installation: Visas Long Term Tourist, or “Premium Long Standstill Tourist Visa”.
Valid for one year, renewable, this card is mainly for tourists, retirees or professionals who want to go with their family and do their activities or work remotely, from the island. According to EDB guidelines, Premium visa applicants must present the following documents at the time of submission application and arrival:

  • a valid passport
  • a copy of your round-trip flight tickets
  • a passport-sized ID photo
  • travel and health insurance covering the entire duration of your stay
  • proof of sufficient funds to support yourself and your family during your stay, such as a bank statement
  • a valid email address
  • a quarantine booking and post-quarantine accommodation reservation (you can complete your arrangements here.)

And meet the following prerequisites:

  • Have their primary place of business, source of income, and profits outside of Mauritius;
  • Provide the required documentation in their application to prove the purpose of the stay, accommodation, etc.
  • Also comply with the other basic immigration requirements.

The Premium Visa can, however, be converted into an Occupation Permit. This allows you to settle for commercial activities, investment, or retirement. Additionally, with a Premium Visa, being on-site allows you to visit at your own pace and potentially acquire real estate under one of the special schemes, such as the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), Real Estate Scheme (RES), Property Development Scheme (PDS), or Smart City Scheme (SCS). The R+2 option is also available, allowing a foreign buyer to own a residence in a building with more than 2 floors. By choosing to spend a minimum of 183 days in Mauritius, you may become a tax resident, and thus be subject to income tax at 15% on all income in Mauritius (conditions apply). The application can be made through the following platform: EDB application Visa Premium
